Phil Wyre

Director of Game Day Operation

Phil was born in historic Concord, Massachusetts and raised as a die-hard Boston (Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox) and New England (Patriots) sports fan. He studied and graduated from Southern New Hampshire University before moving to Anne Arundel County to take a full-time position with the Bowie Baysox, Class AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, prior to the team’s seventh season in operation.

He would serve as a ticket sales representative, Assistant Director of Marketing, Director of Marketing & Promotions and Assistant General Manager for a total of 24 years. Throughout his tenure with the Baysox, Phil was responsible for launching dozens of promotional and community events that still run today. Some of those long- running events include:

  • Navy Night with the USNA Plebe Summer Students

  • Negro League Tribute featuring appearances by former Negro League Baseball Players

  • Women In Sports featuring former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Players

  • Touch-A-Truck featuring over 3-dozen large construction vehicles for kids to enjoy.

  • Heroes Day featuring recognition of the region’s Police, Fire & EMS Personnel

  • Military Appreciation Events featuring giveaways of Military Hero Baseball Card Sets

  • Read and Hit A Home Run Reading Program recognizing students that read books in area county schools.

  • Special Event Jersey Auctions featuring game-worn auctions with proceeds benefiting regional charities.

Phil was a key contributor and collaborator in designing, developing, and launching the team’s alternate Latin identity as part of Minor League Baseball’s “Copa de la Diversión” or “Fun Cup”, in 2018. The initiative was designed to embrace the culture and values that resonate most with Minor League Baseball teams’ local US Hispanic communities. The launch included an all-new team name, the Cangrejos Fantasmas de Chesapeake, or the Chesapeake Ghost Crabs, and logo, that created a line of new merchandise and promotional event opportunities for the club.

Throughout the 24 years Phil was with the Baysox organization, he was instrumental in the day-to-day and long-term operations of the club including: Marketing, Advertising, Promotions, Digital Media (Website, Social Media), Public/Media Relations, Community Relations, Event Planning/Production, Graphics, Print Production, Fan Engagement, Sponsorship/Group Sales, Staff Development and, as all Minor League Baseball staff members do…pull lots of tarp.

Phil, his wife Cindy, their two daughters McKenna & Samantha and their rescue pup Mookie live in Crofton.
